G'day all,

New member, 1st post.....

Was squidding once at Sorrento when the wind blew up too much to jig. I had a surf rod with a running sinker set up with a 6/0 hook with a pilchard tail on that, which i cut the hook off and tied on a 3.0 jig....

4 casts out deep with 4 squid in hand!!

I figure the sinker gives the jig a more aggressive diving action...

I always jig with a running sinker when on a spinning rod outfit....

Have a secret spot at Mornington where I know I will get something...

Also, there are a fair few inky critters under Warneet Pier on a rising tide, exactly halfway between the 1st and 2nd access ladders to the water surface.
hi andee i saw the ink stains at warneet pier last time i was down there. i was sort of surprised the squid hang out in this area because the current can be fairly strong! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> welcome to the forum! cheers, glen <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />
hi all I fished warneet pier on wed to get 5 squid to 725g all on yamashit 3.5 natural ajk jig
nice work! what stage of the tide did you fish?

cheers, glen
If there is only 1m drop you can fish all day
main reason i ask was because i thought the tidal current would run pretty fast in that area.

so i rephrase, ....was the water calm or flowing fast? <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Sad' />

cheers, glen
Quote:Some cracker squid have been caught off the Warneet pier during the week with plenty of anglers getting them over 1.5kg. The best times to fish have been at dawn and dusk with silver whiting under a float being the best bait. Along with the squid there have been good flathead to 55cms caught on soft plastics.
