Hello Everyone,
I have some luck with my home made jig, white pen with hook at the bottom and let them flow. It works really well. Stop by GI, i can show you.

Interesting. Id like to see that...not that I don't believe you or anything. Hey if it "works really well", I'll be off to wally to grab a pack of bics. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/thumbsup2.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':woot:' />

Hey buddy, never saw you down there this year, we stayed away from the crazies at GI this year...just too many people. In fact, I never even went squidding this year, went right to the stripers! Good luck with th homemade jig!

We can still get them, not in the quantity as before but they are still there. But you have to go!!!!
headed out in the boat tonight, follow the FF around, try for some stripers... see what makes the line tight.
the group of 5 of us last night in 2 1/2 hours pulled 30... agreed with mr. brian, very picky. there was one strong bite of about 15 minutes while we were there. mostly small to med size as well. when i was cleaning some of these there were eggs inside a few.
not sure where we are in the seasons run, but i think we may be entering the final week or 2, could be slow pickings for the last week.
i do see the FF fishes for squid through mid to late june though.....
so i guess until there is more local documentation of the squid species its anyone guess until they're truly gone until next year
last year, FF stopped fishing when people stopped showing up.....too bad, squid were still there in massive numbers.. I personally did 3 trips in one weekend. thurs, friday & sunday. Monday at work was awalkin zombie. lol
Pearldiver
I think I can confidently say...
the Gi squid run is OVER

saw a guy with half a bucket at the stone wall at the GI bridge yesterday. he was murdering them on a tiny green jig in the corner. people just feet away from him weren't catching diddy.
I've said before that I would stop this season, but I lied. Went with my buddy Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Thursday from 6pm-10pm on the rockwall by the first ladder from the corner of the basketball court. We went home with 49, mostly medium size to large squids.
Friday 6am-10am same spot. Went home with 25 only, left because of the rain. We were not prepared for the rain. Had to go home and change and rest a bit.
Friday afternoon/night 2pm-4am same spot. Went home with almost a full bucket, about 10% away from filling it.
Saturday 10pm-3am ONE squid!! what the hell!
Thursday and Friday morning, I was just using a 3.0 pink jig with a half ounce sinker. Friday night I had a lot more luck with no sinker. Just 3.0 pink jig on top and a 1.5 blue jig on bottom.
Saturday tried a lot of setups with no luck. That one squid I snagged. There was tons of bait fish again, a lot of baby squids. The squids was way to picky. We seen them swim by and mainly under the bait fish. People was having a lot of luck using the snagging set up.
I was wondering with all the baby squids that I seen Saturday night. Does that mean the season is almost over about another week? I didn't see them on Thursday or Friday.
Off topic question is it me or did they change the forum look?
hey guys went out last night to jamestown dem pier and some guys were killing them left and right on squid jigs that looked like the juicy glow series (pink was hot). does anyone know where these jigs can be purchased? from what i saw it just looked like a bic pen with reflective sticker and a single set of hooks... i didn't catch diddy with the yo-zuri so i just left early...
Hi everyone I am new here....My name is Lia and I just started going for squid 2 yrs ago. I go about twice a yr off the bridge. I live about 1 1/2hrs away so mostly when I make the drive I go for scup. I just mainly go to get enough for a dinner..nothing like fresh seafood. I'm not one to pack my freezer....I'm happy with 10-20 squid.
I'm thinking of making the drive out tomorrow...hopefully I have some luck with the squid....and then will try and see if I can catch some scup to fry up for dinner........are you having any luck with the scup or is it still too early?
Is there a shop where you can recommend in the are to buy jigs? I know of the one across the street from adirondeck pizza joint....is there another?
Thanks for any help you can offer me.

my friend caught some scup in jamestown... decent size too... i'm pretty sure they're in... weather seems unsettled for this week though... i can honestly say stop by your local walmart or benny's store for some hooks and sinkers and bring a variety of bait, sometimes they're picky... either squid, sea worms, or clam tongue... good luck!
kali74b if you are coming down from MA on 95S take exit 26 RI Branch Ave exit. Take a left and there will be a Benny's on the right. They have pink and clear glow in the dark jigs.
I went to GI today after work got there at 6pm left at 8pm. Me and my buddy walked away with 26 meds and large squid. Also caught about 6 pinky size squid, we threw them back. I caught a monster squid when we was about to leave. I measured it at 23 inch without tentacles.

Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum and am also looking for squid. I live on the South Coast of Massachusettes. Can someone please tell me where 'GI" is and if you think there will still be squid around? Also any suggestions on the best time to squid would be great, such as nighttime, under a dock, on a tide coming in or going out...Thank you so much in advance...

So who's still squidding?
Thinking of giving it another 2 or 3 tries...
Crazy legs, welcome aboard.
Google gi in newport. You'll find what you're looking for. Lots of great & helpful
people here.
There are still squid to be caught...maybe not in great numbers as previous weeks....but still
something...go to bennys or a local bait/tackle shop for jigs. At this time, id
Get some smaller/med jigs. And stop by walmart for a gas lantern...get 2 if you can. Don't forget the rope.
I would try eve into the night/early morning imo.
Good luck.
