Hey.
I just read through the thread for last year. The first documented squid were caught on my birthday, April 20.
Just a little perspective here.
This year, I will mostly be fishing from the boat. I have a generator with 2000 watts of halogen lights, a propane heater, more jigs than anyone should be legally allowed to own and I can move anywhere in the bay. It should be good.
That being said, I wanted to post up this sign for people to modify with their screen name. Tape it to your bucket and say "hi" to fellow squidfish.net users. I will have them in the windows of my boat.
If you have a boat, can we agree to monitor and communicate on ch 68?
PM me for cell phone so we can post rapid updates on the water rather than over VHF radio.

Water temp seems to be key as to how far they travel into the bay. Although, I'm still a moon nut. With a full moon coming up on the 9th, I'll probably be giving it a early try that weekend. Will post any results..........
A reminder to everyone looking for gear. Don't miss the RISAA New England Saltwater Fishing Show coming up on April 4-6 at the Providence Convention Center.
http://www.nesaltwatershow.com/
Best spring showo in the NorthEast. Great place to look for deals on fishing gear before the season starts. If you dig around, you can find some bargains on squid jigs.
Also a plug for RISAA. This is a great organization that works hard to protect your rights as fishermen and fisherwomen, as well as protecting, developing and maintaining the local ecosystem of Rhode Island's ocean waters. Well worth supporting. Every bit helps. Last year they ran a couple of squid head boat trips for members only. Check 'em out at: http://www.risaa.org/
I'll be going to the show Friday night after our fishing club cod trip on the Walsh boat that day. If you plan to go, click on the website George provided in his post and get the dollar-off coupon. Also last year I bought a few IKA Minnow squid jigs made by Yo-Zuri. They are 4 3/8" long aand very thin. They came in 7 different colors and the were deadly when I used them offshore in the canyon while tuna fishing. Will be giving them a try this year in RI along with the rest of the Yo-Zuri arsenal that I've collected over the years. Snaildarter

Hello you bunch of squid heads.. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':oops' />
I don't know about you all, but man oh man, what a LONNNNNNNNGGGGGG Winter it has been. It sure is great to see the weather starting to change over. Just had my first hatch of this years chickens, so thats the sign for me and my wife, that squid are soon to follow. Boy, was last year a disapointment or what? Still, the few trips we did make to GI, my wife and our son David, still had a great time mingling with the people and just plain having a good time. I'm sure we will be making plans for a trip soon and will be following the board as I do every year. Just to spit this out there, I'm also thinking of trying something new this year. During the winter, I was reading about fishing and I came across an old news paper story that came from the Stonnington,CT area. It didn't say, but I'de have to guess they where talking about the Mystic River, which is in Stonnington, or very close to flowing thru parts of it. Well, this very old and small local add from a Stonnington paper said that the squid where in and that they where thick and heavy, at the commercial docks. Thats what makes me think Stonnington, because there is a small commericial fleet of fisherman that port there. If they had squid runs there some 20 plus years ago, then more than likely, they still must move thru there at times. If so, that would cut our driving time from New Britain,CT., in half, compaired to our long haul to GI Bridge, RI.....
Well, hope to see some old faces at the bridge this year, and always looking to make new friends, while sharing our love of fishing and squiding.
Tight Lines,
Ned, Margie, & David

There are squid in stonington just after they run through rhodie. My brother hit up the dock i think you're speaking of last year and did better than I did in rhodie...although the size just wasn't there. Every one they caught was palm sized, but still....small squid is better than no squid.
Where in new britain are you? I'm across the street from Guidas....boy what a lovely view that is out my bedroom window. LOL

1st post of the year. I can't wait. Last year was pretty lame at the GI bridge. I had a blast on the francis fleet, at least when they went out, squid showed up. Met up with sommerville joe for 2 or 3 of the trips. I still owe ya a burger! lol My prediction is 3rd week of April. See everyone out there. For those who don't know, I'm the guy with the lampshade reflectors on the colemans.

Whats the matter flukeprodigy? You don't like seeing a cow with a superman cape on, across the street from you? LMAO Hey, we are almost neighbors, I live just down the street from the Hospital, Walnut Hill park is just about in my backyard. If you want to shot me a PM here, maybe we can exchange numbers and hook up sometime. I'm 47 and retired, so I have a good amount of free time on my hands. I wish I had a boat, just sold my jon boat last year, now kicking myself for doing so. But hey, just all that more reason to tell the wife, I need to get something bigger and better. I do own an RV, so weekend fishing trips are in my plans this year, just bought the RV last winter. It's fully loaded and could sleep 6 with no problems. Hey, we could cook up them squid as fast as we pull them in.LOL
I am looking for a boat also, should be some really good deals out there with the economy the way it is. Drop me the PM, would love to call and chat sometime.
Sincerely,
Ned ( MoalboalDiver)
