Yeah, it was a great night on the FF. My final tally was 133, with an avg size of about ~12" mantle, and some monsters (16") thrown in. Bite started right as they dropped anchor, and was crazy for the first two hours, then they moved the boat and it slowed down to a steady pick. The squid were feeding all over in the water column, so you had to experiment with fishing @ different depths in order to find what was most productive.
Overall a good night though- guess the new moon did it.
NICE job. Mustve been madness. Ive got to try the squid charters one of these days...maybe next yr.
Landed 53 lastnight... VERY picky at times. Had to "finesse" them at times using a tiny yamashita, which ended up working out pretty good. Casting out, and working like a plug, rather than jigging...
Last week were bigger... Last night were much smaller. But better numbers.
I was wondering how you could stand getting tossed last night. Everytime I looked over at you, I would see you bottompaint then thee bow would dissapear.
it made things interesting!!
hit them last night, arrived on scene late, 0130, to a steady pick, it picked up later for a couple of hours.
just got back from a packed frances fleet trip. Spent entirely too much time untangling lines thanks to ppl casting across everyones lines  You'd think they'd learn after it happens once or twice.
Anyway the action was good at the beginning and basically came to a screaching halt after about 2hrs. We managed to fill a 5gallon bucket halfway in the first 45 mins. The bucket made it to 3/4 full by the end of the night. BOO!
All totalled, 56 squid, but 54 of the 56 were HUGE. I don't ever remember catching squid that large and so consistently.
Almost every one was caught on bottom and i'd say a 50/50 split btwn white and pink yozuri.
One of these squid is going to land me a 10lb doormat this year.
Hope you all did better than we did but at least we didn't go home empty handed. Time for sleep
Things are really starting to happen in GI (Goat Island)
I got about 2 gallons in 2 hours, I was on fire

Your spot got blown up too huh? Sucks but I feel your pain.
Anyways, i guess in my sleep deprived state, i misjudged the size of my squid. They're actually all btwn 16-21" long
Check out these two bruisers
interesting to note, i'm cleaning all these monster squiddlies.....not a single one has any eggs inside.

it got blown up HARD last night. complete with no "hello, hows it going" or anything. just people on my back flocking to my genny light. i don't mind sharing my light, just say hi.

X2. On fri there was this one guy to my right...and I go to shut off the light on the right side to refuel the genny. He gives me this dirty look as to say "why did you do that"...relax, geez...so he went over to mooch someone else light...and once I powered mine again, he came over to me again...

Made a last minute decision and my son and I took our boat out to matunik beach last night. We could see the ff boat set up just to our west when they arrived, about a mile away. We got squid just after we arrived, and it was still light out.
We got enough to keep us happy, although I wouldn't say we set any records. As others have said, it was a 50/50 split between pink and white (the glow kind). Highlight of the night was that my son boated a 13.5" black sea bass without even using a net (we forgot one).
Seas were calm, nobody crowded us out of our generator (4x500 watt halogens burning), and generally a nice but chilly night until about 2:00 am.
Then a wall of fog rolled in and the sat weather showed rain coming. So against my better judgement we made a run back in (staying put was also against my better judgement - no good choices lol). By the time we got to the west gap at PJ we couldn't see either the breakwall or the illuminated signals. In fact, I couldn't see buoys unless I passed within about 10 feet of them.
My butt is still clenched. But we will have a nice dinner tomorrow, and no bumps in the night, so I guess I'll do it again.

I definately saw your boat last night. My brother and I were remarking about your light setup and how you might be visible from space <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/xyxthumbs.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' /> We did really well just before dark and it really slowed down after that. Some ppl did better than others but we kept wishing we could've switched places with you and been on your boat. Frances was PACKED last night to the point it was getting uncomfortable/frustrating. Were all your squid huge too?
My first post, but I've been a lurker for a while here....went out on the FF last (Sunday) night. Was consistent action all night long for me and my wife. We were bailing them for the first 1 and a half. Over all we filled two 5 gallon buckets on the evening. Boat was not totally full. Huge squid. We've got some serious cleaning to do right now. I'll try to post a pic or two after I weigh it all this morning.
Most interesting thing to note--the Captain decided not to turn on the lights at all all night long. Certainly didn't affect the fishing and I heard him telling the mate that he thinks the lights may have actually spooked the squid both Friday and Saturday nights...
It showed me that lights are not required to have good squidding.
hi jkjnp, welcome to the forum! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' /> cheers, glen

Was on the same boat (first time), me and my dad filled a bucket apiece...would've liked to see the lights on the last hour or so, but overall an enjoyable trip
Hi everybody:
Sorry for the late post. Finally went to GI on Thursday night with a generator and picked up 23 squid. It sounds like its getting better now but also more crowded. I was wondering I have a 14 foot boat w/ 20 hp motor and an underwater light setup I use for blue crabs. Its nothing I want to take into the open ocean but it would do in the harbor (calm water).
Is there a boat launch somewhere around GI where I can put in. Im thinking of just fishing just somewhere up from the causeway (Fishing there should not be a problem?)
Thanks
3 launching ramps in Newport harbor

Mr Brian were you on the bridge?? JOHNAT and I (Suzy Squid)
Squid were picky had to use a small jig. We were the only ones with a geny and we had a hard time with people taking our space. We caught a whopeing 10 squid, mostly small.

We had to leave first time JOHNAT and I (SuzySquid) were upset a few people actually stepped in front of our chairs, couldn't belive it. We dont mind sharing the light but to stand in front of our chairs when we put a different jig on ?
We left at 11pm and the obnoxious ones actually ran.
