the other 8 or so did show any sign of leaving after i left
Was at the bridge from 4:30-6:30 PM today. Nothing...nothing...nothing
[quote name='skaneri' post='15360' date='May 22 2009, 06:28 AM']Today (Thursday) 10 am to 4 pm at the wall...managed 32 squid of medium to small size. One lady insisted on casting over everyone and causing tangled lines whenever the bite turned on. Older woman catching 3:1 over everyone else...same jigs, seemingly the same technique, I will have to study her more closely! Met some nice people...none from the site today.

Ink stained and glad of it!

Were you the guy in the green shirt that I told not to sit down??

We both did pretty well at the wall altjhough that is the first time I did not fish from the bridge.

Jahab
Just got back from Frances Fleet and I caught a grand total of 10 squids. 10 was the avg. per person on the boat tonight, but one couple caught a little over 3/4 of a 5 gallon bucket. The whole night was slow picking. With a couple of scups caught by people and released(Isn't a bit early for scup?), didn't see any flukes. Freaking sucks since I heard the good reports from people that went on FF last week.

I'm just about ready to give up on squid this year. I've only caught about 36 squids on 3 trips to GI and 1 trip on FF combine. Time for me to gear up for blues and stripers.

Yes, Jahab...that was me...no chair next time!!! Wish I could go today but I have to help a friend out of town...probably won't get back out 'til Wednesday. I like the wall better than the bridge...I always seem to do better down there, I think it is because the confined quarters keep the squid in a little longer. It was nice meeting you...see you down there soon, I hope.

If I didnt have work, I wouldve stayed til the bite stopped. But I just used

a sick day last fri so..lol

Counted 43, mostly med-lrg with a few smalls mixed in.

Looks like later on will be an all nighter..bday sat AND sun...out for stripahs both mornings....possibly back out Mon for squid.
ok guys here's the deal... if you want to catch them you'll have to stay very late into the night and early early mornings... i was out from 10 pm to 4 am to catch a half bucket... i lost as many while trying to reel them up... word to the wise... learn from my mistake... a fisherman is only as good as his fishing line... i bought some cheap line and the line memory was horrible... it would tangle up in my spooler like crazy... ERRRR!

oh these squid are very very smart as well... i was able to observe them gently touching the jig's hook and realize that it was not a live bait and just scoot out... unbelievable!

You get what you pay for! NEVER EVER EVER cheap out on line. Its one of the worst things you can do.

That being said, i almost exclusively use 4-6lb fluro on lite to ultralight tackle with small jigs. Its the key for finicky squids. we'll see how it pans out for me tonight. I'm also going to bring a heavier spinning combo w/ probably 10 or 12lb mono for snagging ...just in case <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Tight lines and have a safe /fun weekend everyone!

The francis fleet leaves too early, I was the guy in the boat out with you last night. I got tossed around pretty good. Right after the francis left the place lit up until sunrise. Like someone else said, you have to stay out late. I got a couple of scup and a large sea bass as well. My squid total for the night was slightly higher than yours. Sorry.

Agreed cheap line, like cheap beer.............SUCKS...

nothing gets on my reels except berkley or spiderwire... there are a few other decent lines out there but those are my preferences....

you def need to put in the hours to get your catch, but it's well worth it for tasty squidies and super fresh FREE bait

Mike...I think the term "slightly higher" is taking things a bit too far....let's be honest here, you are the king squidder! Too bad you could not make it. Another great day.

I arrived about 10 am and left at 2 with a bucket full of nothing. As good as yesterday was, this was bad. I did not even have a chance to lose one.

There were 2 very short flurries--one at the wall and one on the bridge. Neither lasted more than 5 minutes.

was also on Francis Fleet last night. I was the one who didn't start fishing til after 930. I was so dizzy i had a hard time standing. I only caught 15 or so this week, unlike the pail ful last friday. Peter & Connie had their usual sucess alsom a pail ful right besids me. The 3 other nubies I brought with me also had a dozen or so. Ihope I have better luck on sunday's trip on the American Classic.

I was wondering how you could stand getting tossed last night. Everytime I looked over at you, I would see you bottompaint then thee bow would dissapear.
So i missed the boat last night (frances fleet) b/c my brother got hung up at the office later than expect <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Of course they slayed them on the night I couldn't make it.

FF REPORT:

Capt. Ray just called in to report that from the moment the squid jigs went into the water the squid started flying over the rails all around the boat. Double headers were the rule and as this is being written many regulars such as Peter and Connie Tu have filled more than a five gallon bucket already and they have been fishing for less than an hour. Capt. Ray reported the action is just insane!
Yeah, it was a great night on the FF. My final tally was 133, with an avg size of about ~12" mantle, and some monsters (16") thrown in. Bite started right as they dropped anchor, and was crazy for the first two hours, then they moved the boat and it slowed down to a steady pick. The squid were feeding all over in the water column, so you had to experiment with fishing @ different depths in order to find what was most productive.

Overall a good night though- guess the new moon did it.
Last night i took a trip with (Taxman25, Timbo, BassHole) on Fransis Fleet. The begining of the trip was the most productive catching the larger squid. Taxman was a steady contributor to taking down the larger squid. Timbo was down and out for most of the trip, due to a bad SubWay sandwich . All said and done we were able to fill 2 1/2 5 gallon buckets. Ill tell ya what, fishing with Fransis Fleet is the way to go if you want to catch the infamous SQUID.
I'll be on the FF tonight. Look for the guy w/ the yankees hat and orange bucket and come say hi <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
