LMAO!!! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />
That ray looks like a torpedo ray!!!!!!!!!!!
morning squid fishing eh??

i shall give it a try this week...
My 2 cents, I think the squid run is in it's early stages, but it will be over quicker than the normal 4-6 weeks. This being due to all the predatory fish in the area. Cod being one of the biggest, stripers and blues in already etc.

KGJ- I think you will be OK with your reservation but I wouln't book for the week after. Definately not like the squid a couple years ago, you have to work a little more. If you remember a few years ago the squid bite was good but there were no great cod bites (no one was even fishing for them if I remember), herring weren't around (eating the same small fish the suid feed on) and the stripers and blues are already being seen.

That's exactly what that is, I'm surprised no one got zapped.

I'll be there tonight with my underwater lamp.

Come say hi.
No can do tonight, probably won't make it up again till Friday or Saturday, I mean I COULD come up tonight but it's 1.75 hours in the car and then launch boat etc. for no squid! I am also thinking of trying some different areas closer to home. With a boat I'm not as limited to where I can fish, so I may try the RI beaches, etc.
My first post of the season. Caught a total of 4 last Thurday night (8-~11pm). I'm gonna head down tonight and should come back with a report tomorrow.

I fished along side of CApt.Dom http://www.coastalcharterssportfishing.com/ for the past 2 days. Very nice guy, I would recomend him to anyone that wants to fish for Squid, Stripers, and Tuna. As for the squid slow pick, I can confirm that the draggers are scratching their heads as well. The big thick run has not happened, there are small pockets of squid around and it is some work to find them. I Managed 90lbs in 2 days. I should have had that each day!!

what does the squid charter run? $$
SQUID ARE HERE AT GI!!!!

I was there this week when the ray was caught, it was a torpedo (electric) ray and about 45lbs. Yesterday I got a 1/2 bucket in 3 hrs and was there from 11 am to 4 pm. Today was the same, slightly less squid but BIG, my best was 18". there was a big bite in the middle of the bridge about 1pm that lasted for almost 30 minutes, and all the squid were good sized.

the day seems to be best right now, with a solid bite happening around noon. I'm going back tomorrow, I drive a red ranger pickup with stickers all over the tailgate, and will probably have a navy "st. mary's college of maryland" sweatshirt on, hope tomorrow's good again. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blueboxbullet.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':ink' />
fished jamestown again tonight 8 - 1030p. they are here and big. go get 'em

Looks like a skate to me... Skates usually invade the harbors as they love to dine on squid eggs. Soon you'll see massive schools of sea robins!
Slow pick at the GI wall from 8-11 this evening, just got finished cleaning 10 squids.

I set up a "squid cart" to roll my deep cycle battery +lamp + bucket + rods around for solo missions... worked out pretty well, needs shocks though.
Gooooo celtics!!!!!!

Any update?
That picture is definitely of a torpedo ray- no doubt about it.

Slow night at GI... Got there around 7:30 PM, left at 1:00 AM and managed three squid. Tired at work right now.

There was more baitfish there than I've ever seen- We had a ball about 20' radius right near the first light on the bridge. There were schools of squid everywhere, but they refused to bite. I and others had the most success snagging them. I think I'll make a dedicated snagger rig tonight, and fish it on Thursday if they're that picky again.
Fished from about 10pm to 2am. Caught a total of 54 squid. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/fishing.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':rod:' /> Nice size ones too! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blueboxbullet.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':ink' /> The bite was pretty good at dusk and so-so thru the night. I probably snagged about half of what I caught. I'm the Zorro of squid snagging... <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/zorro.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':ink' /> ... Kinda like snagging pogies, but, more fun IMO.

About an hour before sun down, saw a lot of splashes in the water, small-med size Stripers gulping the abundance of bait around. At night, the bait balls were like soup. you could easily deep your jig thru them and garanntee one snagged. Almost to much bait if you ask me...(squid bellies too full?)

Need to recoup today, looking at the weather another trip tonight would be ideal. Although, like a previous poster I need closepins just to keep my eyes open at work. What we do for fresh squid, huh?

Good luck all,

-Tatonka-

Gotta take advantage. I've only gone out twice this season...just so busy...

Time to put in more hrs...starting tonight...
That's the spirit, that's it, we're heading up in the boat tonight, maybe launch before 9 if I'm lucky!!!! Let's see what the wifey says!
ugh if i didn't have client meetings and our Carrier coming to the office tomorrow, i'd be on my way up there right now. GRRRRRRRRRRRRR. Figures the squid start to move in and I can't get up there.
