caught 1 and lost 1 on the retrieve last night in jamestown. put in about hour and a half before the kids ADD kicked in. will leave them home next weekend and put in some solid hours next weekend. i need to catch some bait, save a few bucks for the start of the fluke season. maybe take the boat out of PJ and try the south shore beaches, or follow the FF boat for a while.....
Striper, what depth were you fishing at the bridge? I may go there tues night if I can scare up a crew.

Twiggy, where was the FF boat fishing? Were you near the newport bridge or off the beaches outside the harbor?

Thanks
I was on the Frances squid trip last night. I caught 7 squid. 2 Fellows on my left caught 1 each. Person on my right got skunked. No one on my side of the boat caught much more than I did.

The mates were having a blast catching porgies all night. Saw some big ones.
I know my ff reports <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />
hey guys,

please cut it out with the constant references to "asians". many of the members of this forum are asian (and so is my girlfriend as a matter of fact). i don't think they would appreciate the constant (and needless) references to race. if it continues then I will start deleting posts.

I know that no offence is intended.... but it is the perception of the reader that matters.

Regards, glen

ps. I am in China at the moment. It is great. I will send some pics when I get back home. No fishing opportunities so far unfortunately.
CApt.Dom http://www.coastalcharterssportfishing.com/ report of Hyannis squid posted on NBSSPORTFISHING.com

Well, I finally made it up to Hyannis, after a lackluster start to the squid run, I felt the catch reports were decent enough to warrant charging people to fish.

Friday was an amazing day on the water, got out on the grounds by 6:30 am, one anchor drop at 6:45am, and that was the extent of my deck skills till I pulled the hook at 3 PM and headed to the barn, which this week happens to be Hyannis Marina. Gorgeous day, and the squid just kept hitting the buckets, all day, non stop. My guys filled 2 120 quart coolers and half a 70 quart, around 375-400 pounds total, all jigged up one or two at a time.[Image: Icon_NBS_Bull.gif]

I then expected to really put the mustard on them at night, but went to the same area only to find a lifeless bottom, with only a few small pockets of squid on the screen, it was a lot of work in the dark, and of course the weather man screwed the pooch yet again. 5-10 decreasing to Light and variable overnight was a steady 12-15 out of the south, with heavy moon tide keeping the boat laying all messed up, we got pounded around for only around 100 pieces total for the boat in 5 hours or so. back to the dock around 1am, and now starting to feel like a squid zombie again, a familiar feeling for me in early May with the Newport night bite usually good. Now Im into squid day and night with the Hyannis day bite being good, I should be completely zombified by Friday.

Todays trip was difficult fishing in poor conditions, but with alot of anchor dropping(maybe 25-30 drops) and moving around, we were able to find small pockets of fish and put some good numbers up with a slow pick from 6:30 am to 2:30 PM. My guys left with 2 full buckets, around 100 pounds of prime tasty squids.

No trip tonight or tommorrow with the weather, but back at it next week doubled up most days.

This is NOT like the FF reports!

I was fishing around the abutttmnets 33E & 35E in approx. 23-27 ft of water.

Greg,

We were off the beaches just south of the harbor of refuge at the same area where they fluke fish. I think is Matunik beach about a mile off.

Yeah, I think they like to hang out on the beaches because it's so close. They are out in 15 minutes, anchor up, and don't move again until it's time to go home. I just thought it was a little early to fish there with the water temps being low. But you can really get beaten up out there if the wind kicks up, even on a boat as big as theirs.

Decisions, decisions. Tuesday is supposed to be FAC, so inside or outside it won't make much of a difference.
Just got back from my first outing. Got to the GI area last night (Sat) around 7pm and found all parking area full. Bridge and wall were full of lights and people, but no one seems catching. Started casting around 8pm and had a steady pick until 10pm. Caught only 8 squid (lost/got off at least that many) during that time and no bite 10pm after. Left around midnight. Came back 5am, and saw only 2 groups of generator light still there, huge school of bait (sand eel?) but no squid. Gusty wind with plenty of white caps. Checked back around noon and the area was near desert.

Blue and green seems to be the color of the day, rather than pink.
Hey guys, i was wondering if you guys can help me out. i been fishing in Goat island for a few years now, and wanna try to go on a charter boat? or that what they call it to fish for some mass amount of squid lol. well iam about to go next sat, and i heard that Frances fleets wasn't catching as much? is there any other boats that have been catching alot lately? and what is the boat called?

I feel everyone's pain I went out Friday night about 9pm to Port Ghetty, it was HORRIBLE <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> ! ! ! After 2 hours there we left with NOTHING, then we headed over to Tiverton and didn't see anything either... A bunch of feeder fish and a few stragglers, no schools WHAT SO EVER ! Once the rain started to pour we got out of there..

Probally gonna try again sometime mid-week hopefully i'll catch something for the freezer and some bait for the striper season...

Good Luck till then...

And as for the Ika Minow obviously I had no luck cause I never had the chance to jig for a squid hahahaha But hopefully I can get some pulls this week <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blueboxbullet.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':ink' /> !
went to goat island from 6-8;30 pm and nada. had dinner and came back and squidding for 1/2 hr, still nothing. saw a total of 3 caught the whole time. very windy conditon. think this year might be worse than last if that is possible.

Yes they were catching pretty good in Hyannis during daytime. Go this week since by end of this week a lot of boat will switch to porgy fishing.

Based on so many people fished in GI and the amount of squid caught, the run is worse than last year. But the squid is not done spawning (I cut one last night, very sweet taste, dip in hot water and chow down with soy source). Some of the bites I got Sat night were pretty aggresive so hopefully they still around the next couple weeks.
Hi all,

Made a trip to Jamestown this weekend. My son and I got out late Saturday and stayed until early Sunday with no squid caught and not even any sightings. When we got to the pier there were about thirty people fishing and not one squid caught, at least by anyone we talked to. Still it was better than sitting in fron t of the tv. Next weekend we'll try again.

chopper
Also went to Tiverton Sunday morning for togging. Saw some big togs caught by others, but overall it's a very slow bite and the wind blow really hard from west, quit after 2 hours and gave the crabs to the pro group.

Here's a Hyannis squidding report on boat from another site:

Quote:squids in Hyannis

I was on Anglers last night because Helen-H was full even though I had reservation. Turned out good for us in terms of comfort because we were drifting while trying to locate squids. I can't imagine drifting light jigs with others on Helen-H. We tried to anchor a few times but it was better while drifting.

We had about 70. thats right 70 not 700 or 7 qts. It was not worth of the driving from NYC to Hyannis and lack of sleeping. But the time I spent with both my parents was Priceless.

Squids were scattered all over the place and was very cautious grabbing jigs. I had many torn tenacles on jigs. I think they are there but was spooked by something. Captain said even though he locates pods, they will dissappear in 5 min after anchoring up and fishing.
Went out last night for a few hours...Did see a few being caught, not by me...The wind was brutal, the seas angry...What's going on with these squid? Maybe try Wed night.

Good luck,

-Tatonka-

I went Friday night after work, 9 till 1 am. I tried both GI and NPT bridges and some open water where we've got them in the past, I caught 0. Didn't see anything caught by anyone else either.
maybe we caught them all
