There was definietly a lot of herring there last night. I saw some folks jigging for herring, Im sure they knew it was illegal they didn't care.
On the other note. Huge clouds of baitfish. Also a school of squid but it didnt touch the jigs. Hopefully next week is better.
I've been hearing that. Maybe the squid got smarter.....
FYI, I just reviewed the RI regulations. The blue backed herring is protected in fresh water environments, there is no regulation regarding catching them in salt water (such as GI Bridge)
PART II
ANADROMOUS FISHERIES REGULATIONS
2.1 No person shall land, catch, take, or attempt to catch or take any alewives, Alosa pseudoharengus or blueback herring Alosa aestivalis, from any fresh waters of the State of Rhode. Possession of any alewive or blueback herring, at any time, is prohibited and shall be evidence, prima facie, that said herring was taken in violation of this section.

i did... its called herring regulations as for massachusetts i did.. its called MA harbour report..
I dont care what yall wanna talk about, i am just annoyed over the bickering of herring regulations when they are clearly stated. I would love to talk more about fishing since there are no squid to report of, but for those choosing to state facts about the fishery or fishing without having any prior knowledge demostrates to me how much they really are passionate for the fishing.. which is really their lack of.
I am surprised you don't try to help your fellow RI brothers out, most people don't know they are doing wrong. why not inform them. enlighten them. i am for the conservation of fishing not the destruction.
to hotdog your regulations are here. RI marine abstracts 2009

what spot did u catch one at
Hey folks,
Fished from 8-11 pm. Nothing in my bucket last night. However, Alan the superstar did manage to catch one decent size squid. (Way to go!) Hoping for this weekend. If Spawnlee would finally show we would all start catching........
Side note...was a little disappointed to see so many people illelagaly taking Herring. After reading the forum I thought I might see 1 or 2 people braking the rules. However, there was about 10+ people targeting the protected fish. Its so flagrant it sickens me. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/mad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='

Good luck all,
-Tatonka-
i have not personally seen anyone fishing for the herring, but i would hope it's a combination of lack of identification of the species and a dad with a kids fishing for them. the kids obv don't know and don't care, they just want to get hooked on fishing....
...no squid here last night at the fort, i did see a lonely squidy swim by....
oh, and can we ditch the bickering on here. it's so retarded...
I always find the ones annoyed with bickering, are usually the ones CATCHING THE HERRING <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='

As for where Alan caught the squid. I will only say that he repelled under the bridge and grabbed it old school style. Way to go Alan. Thanks for the phone call it made sleeping even harder knowing there are squid being caught.
What do they use herring for? striped bass <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='

It would not be fair to other squidders if your RV takes up a spot for days, they might call the cops over to enforce the "2 hour" parking rule. Try any private house there to see if they let you park in their driveway for a fee.
LOL @ cops enforcing the 2 hr parking rule. Every year i see cars parked in the same spots for days. IN fact, there's one car that looks like the family truckster from National Lampoons Xmas vacation that i see there every year. It's an early 90's black ford taurus wagon and always has an asian guy sleeping in it. LOL. Wonder if that's anyone on here. Can't remember if it has mass or NY plates.
That being said, its obvious that the 2hr parking rule is not enforced. There's just too many ppl on the bridge for the cops to give a crap about who's parked where for how long. I think his biggest issue though would be just fitting the RV in one of those spots....if one was even open. In all the years i've been going up there, I dont' recall ever getting one of those spots. Doesn't matter what time I show up, those spots are always taken when i get there and the same cars will always be there 24hrs later when i leave.
Are you sure they were bluebacks or alewives ? Sea herring will take a sabiki. Sea herring are legal.

hhahaha I just picture alan repelling w/ a knife in his teeth, a pirate hat and an eye patch on, diving in under the bridge to get some squiddlies. LOL.
YARRRRRRRRRRR THERE BE SQUID IN THESE WATERS!
willing to bet alans post stating he caught 1 squid will ultimately be responsible for a 40% overnight increase in fisherman at the causeway in the next day.
This sucks. its raining all next week. When will I be able to go squidding aaaaaahhhhhhhhh
