Hey Evil,
Have they started charging yet at Getty? I'm trying to get to Jamestown this weekend and Getty is convenient but there are other places to go if we've got to pay to get in.

No they do not charge you, unless you go through the toll. That's the only thing. Which is 2$. Other than that, nope that place is free!

Someone clamed that they caught. They caught by unusual means, not snagging or jig. So it is first squid at April 27. According to the table the flukeprodigy won. Man I will have to save you some squid jigs next time I go diving. Congrads!
Water temp last night was 47.5 by my thermometer at the causeway. Still too cold. FYI my reading are usually 2.5 degrees less then the internet posting from the base. Personally I am looking at that magic 51.

Thanks Alan, see you soon.

I was at Goat Island last night "heard" of squid being caught, but did not see any. Can anyone tell me when the season usually begins? Also, I caught a half dozen herring on a Xmas tree rig (shrimp imitation). Are the herring common here? any ideas on how long the herring are around for? I am not from the area so this is mostly a guessing game for me. Trying to catch some bait from shore until the boat hits the water in a couple of weeks. Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks soccerlife. I know that at some point they'll open for camping and, unless something has changed, us out-of-towners have to pay a fee of about 10 bucks to drive past the gate. I used to have access to a car with a resident sticker but no longer. I'll give it a try this weekend and report back.

Hi Hotdog,
You will see herring and mackeral at times down in Newport. FYI, it's illegal to take herring in RI and MA. If you're a natvie American Indian, they allow you to take some but must show proof.
i dont no the address but i was there last nite n nothing but i saw a guy with 2 in his bucket at getty
