Don't base your success on one nights trip. Just ask anyone else familiar with squidding, they might be running thick one night and gone the next and vice versa. It is a matter of being in the right place at the right time. The Francis Fleet out or RI and The Helen H out of Hyannis, MA both run squid trips...check their sites for their schedules and rates.

I am actually going out on the Helen H March 8th on a Cod trip to Georges Bank. It will be my first trip with that crew, I'll let you know how it goes.
squid won't be running until late april , early may. My boat is moored hyport, I'll post when squid arrive
helen h didn't go out for squid last season as the run was so poor. frances fleet went out for like a week or 2, but the result was mixed. when the run is poor, it's poor everywhere. not just newport. just pay attention to this site and grab your pole and jig when the squid hits. don't know about this year's run. if it is still poor, then there's problem somewhere that's limiting the #'s. but why pay 50-70 bucks to catch a few more squids.

helen h is a good cod boat but expensive. 170 i believe. u should try walsh's out of lynn, ma. 125 and u get bigger cods.. they caught a 72 lb and a 60 something lb 2 weeks ago. most of the capts and even the coast guard fish outta that boat. but for numbers, helen h probably get more. both boats are xellent cod boat. my opinion just base on price and size
The Hellen H is $195 for the extened georges trip, (went the day after Thanksgiving) The Captain raised the rate at the dock in the morning for fuel. The trip was OK. I here they are killing them to the south and on Walshes. Georges should be on FIRE!!!! unlimited keep!!!!! Good luck Travis
Coastal charters sport fishing; Cap Dom for RI.. six pack boat.
Helen H - Angler hyannis, ma...; Capt joe or Capt greg? head boat and smaller six pack boat
Frances fleet RI head boat..
fishing is no guarrentee.. last year was tough for squid

I am pumped!!! I planned on going out to the Swift for a little flyfishing in the storm yesterday but the flows were up so I stayed home...I have already rigged my rods, cleaned and shined all of my cod jigs, sharpened all the hooks, and tied up a dozen leaders with swivels, snaps and droppers, even tied up some custom cod flies with purple flashabou and DNA...so I decided to REALLY take my time yesterday and bring all of my hooks to very sharp points, and rerig my rods with the braid to a 50' topshot of 100lb mono via the slim beauty, I am really suffering from cabin fever right now as you can see. I went out in the woods saturday to pull my tree stands but I can't remember my combination to the locks!! DOH!!!!

Sounds good, I hope the seas lay down for you. Your rig sound right. I was using 80# braid and 80# flouro leader. never broke or lost anything. on another note. I've got a letter to forward you regarding this years Tuna quota's. I'll PM you later with it. OH yeah, we usually fish on the bow, but the pool winner came from the Port side 3/4 down the rail towards the stern. GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have the letter and I sent a few copies to the appropriate parties...are you going Wed to the hearing in Gloucester. It is best that everyone makes it to the mettign so we don't lose our share of the quota, I can't believe what a bunch of BS this whole thing is with the Bluefin tuna!! For those of you who don't know, the brief synopsis is that since the USA has such stringent restrictions on bluefin tuna(as we are trying to be stewards of the ocean), we have not met out quota for the past few years...now ICCA is contemplating giving a large portion of our quota to other countries. All of the other countries on record have much less stringent restrictions on bluefin so none of this makes any sense, the way the whole system is setup is rediculous.

Hi Kennyz, a couple of years ago I was on the Francis Fleet squid fishing and met 4 guys who had just come from a charter in Hyannis. They were from Brooklyn NY and fished during the day. Then scooted over to Pt. Judith to fish at night with the Francis Fleet. They got 6 fulll buckets in Hyannis on their charter while getting less than a 1/4 bucket on Francis. I don't know the name of the boat they were on but a little bit of research should put you in touch with a good boat. I know that they didn't go very far from the dock to catch the squid. I think they mostly fished the harbor. Have you tried the Hyannis link? Best of luck. Snaildarter
Most likely they fished on the Angler <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='
' /> which is part of the Helen H fleet. As previously stated i have the Angler Chartered for May 8th <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> .
