Hey thanks for the info. I've had a bad cold this week so I've been staying in the warm. I like to cast my jig out off the end of the pier on the...............erm.......East side (Mentone side!!). There are often squid out away from the pier and a slow retrieve often works for me. Plus the weed is less of a problem. That area is really bad after a storm as far as weed goes. It can eat jigs very quickly! Also try using a squid float. You can also use a surf rod to cast far out off the end where there is a shelf often loaded with pinkies!

Hey 8v8p yeah i was there that night anthonys my name i caught the large skate gee that was a whopper that one. Also got two large snapper 65 and 74 cm during the night and another in the morning 78 cm it was the best pier fishing night ever i reckon! dont stress about the jigs i lose plenty as well i get 2 dollar ones from rays outdoors and still catch the squid beat losing a 20 dollar jig on the bottom.

I am a beginner of fishing... it was great to see fishing such a large fish as you guys did... and this was the first time. I don't think other pier have produced a snapper like that size around melbourne?

Fished Beaumaris pier a few times in the last week, caught some small squid around 15cm hood length, seems alot of the small ones are hanging around. Other people were also catching them, so theres still action.



Also tried mordialloc for no squid which was dissapointing, oh well.

last time i was at beau and there was no squid on the pier i went to the boat ramp and worked the rocks, very good spot but easy to part ways with jigs..

not going to bad at the moment, as usual some nights only 1-3 landed by anyone other nite maybe 2-3 for everyone, although its been a bad year for crowds hopefully as it gets colder on the serious squidders will stick around. Been doin good at mordialloc later in the evening around the lights.

i have never fished mordi but heared it can be ok but when its not good nothing us caught, thats what i like about brighton, when its bad you still get one or two.



i cant wait for this weather to get colder, have my fingers crossed that only a few squiders will stick around....

death what jigs do you use at beau?

i found that the yamashita slow sinking 2.2 naory works well there.

hmm usea variety favourite jig changes like the clouds in the sky, at the moment its the harimitsu in a dark colored range, otherwise my standard goto is the size 2 red yamashita the real shiny one, most my jigs have had the weight altered by me to suit the diff depths and it really depends on ya action, if you havea egi action then u need the weight fully intact if your like me and like more sutile twiches then trim the weight down till it sinks extremely slowly, at mordi the trick is to work the edges of the lights and helps if you can flick it a good distance cuase most the good reef is out a full cast,.
