no worries mate, forgot to mention fished blairgowrie on the way home for nothing
i have just about lost all faith in blairgowrie, i have not seen any decent sized squid there for at least a year.
i think from now on ill stick to sorrento , flinders, and my new favourite spot mt martha <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I received a report of some good calamari being caught amongst the boat moorings just out from the ramp at Sorrento last weekend. Drifting and casting small 2.0 and 2.5 size jigs over the wee beds has been the best technique.
If you are fishing when the conditions are a little windy, try drop shotting your jigs to get them to the bottom.

How safe is it to eat squid caught on the "wee beds"? HA ahahaha <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' /> <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Rob and I went back to the pier lastnight for 1 squid between us on the incoming tide... Not happy Jan!
We were guessing they dont like the full moon...
The was a bit of chop on the water, which is usually good as it breaks the surface up a bit as they seem to be too timid otherwise.
Oh well... there is always next time!
Although im heading to Darwin in a few days for a couple of weeks.
Are there many squid up there this time of year?
Whats the best size jig? Are they bigger than our southern variety.... Might do some looking around as well I think.
Or should I just stick with the humble Barras instead! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
Lifes tough sometimes! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' />

Which pier are you fishing from in Sorrento, the one where the ferry departs?

I will be down in that area on the weekend, never tried sorento, but you have convinced me to try.

If the bigger squid are coming in, I suppose I should start to make my way back from Darwin then!
But I am enjoying this no work, hot weather, cold beer type of life! haha

Staff member Jarrod fished the high tide at Sorrento pier very early on Thursday morning. It was quite a slow start however Jarrod still managed 3 calamari to 500g using a Yo-Zuri Premium Aurie-Q jig and the Prototype "EVIL" Jig Jarrod has been testing over the past few weeks.

Rob and I fished Sorrento last night.
We had good vibes for a few squid, there was a bit of chop on the water to break up the surface a bit so the squid wouldnt be as timid.
But we only got 3 for the night, even though we could see a few cruising around. Tried a few different colours, but couldnt really tempt them.
