Thought I'd kick off a 2021 thread for MA. If anyone squids around Nut Island in Quincy, I'd appreciate hearing any reports as to when they are in.
Â
Here's my report:
Â
Went out Saturday May 1 around 2:30pm in the kayak to Collier's Ledge. Weather was snotty on the way out but calmed down within the hour. The squid fishing was lights out, ended up with 53 squid in about 3 hours just by myself.Â
Â
All the squid were in 22-26 ft of water. Water temp was 54F. Was getting them on pink, green and yellow jigs.

Just heard squids are in pretty thick in Edgartown. Reliable report from a couple sources. Mostly big ones. My friends are getting them from the docks, don't know anybody who has tried from a boat in the harbor yet.

Friend squid by boat on Wednesday night just outside the harbor by the red can, 2 5 gallons buckets between 4 guys. He said it was slow.
Hello Everyone,
Â
Wanted to get into squidding this year and I have all the equipment but not quite sure where to go if anyone is willing to help give some advice. Anything is appreciated.
Â
Thanks
Tried the pier in Onset last night. Didn't catch or see any squid caught. I did see a decent schoolie striper caught.Â
Hi Guys, New to the group. Planning of doing some night time boat squidding in the Marblehead?salem Sound area in the next week or so and wondered if anyone has had any luck north of Boston yet this year? Will report back when there's something to report... Thx
Hi All,
Squid fished a couple nights off the boat at Provincetown Marina late last week. Lots of squid on pink and orange yozuri jigs. Fun and productive. Water temp was low 70s. Will be fishing N of Boston in the next couple weeks. Will report back them.

Thanks for the report Reddog. Always appreciated. Are they allowing fishing off the harbor wharf in P'Town?
Awfully quiet ð¤
Anyone been squidding in MA at all?

I was staying on my boat overnight and have squid lights in the transom so I fished from there. The launch driver did mention that the locals liked to fish off the piers and seemed somewhat put off by their tendency not to clean up overly well after a long night of fishing. So it sounds like itâs doable though maybe not particularly appreciated..
I heard P town could be productive in July/August but never tried. A bit far. Especially nowadays with all the tourists.
Anyone tried Nut Island or Boston harbor lately? Ive been trying Beverly multiple times. Not good at all. A lot of time and efforts wasted ð
A friend got some nice squid from a dock in Edgartown last night. He just built a new squid rod and went to try it out, I don't know if they are in for the fall yet, seems early, but he got a mix of large and mediums.
Does anyone fish the fall run off Hyannis?
Squid sporadic in Edgartown, no real solid good action yet. Been getting some for bass bait but barely able to keep up a decent supply, only getting 15-25 a night between two guys, sometimes three guys. I haven't found any in Menemsha yet. Hopefully the numbers increase soon and we get some hot squidding.
Edgartown squidding has gotten better, but still somewhat sporadic. Daytime squid being caught often now, usually in the deep water. Many larger squid being caught now which makes those who eat them happy but those of us who cast them for stripers and blues prefer 4-6" tubes for castability.
Where in Edgartown do you go?
I left Edgartown the 28th after squidding from the docks almost every night for a month. Before the big blow we were getting daytime squid in the deep water off the marina. Action was pretty hot with mostly larger squid with 8-14" bodies. We mostly fish for the smaller surf castable squid with 4-6" bodies and trade the larger ones we catch for the size we like. I don't know how it is after the storm, but I would think it should be good. The loading zone and finger piers by the yacht club are also good spots to jig. Sadly Memorial Wharf is off limits this year due to construction/restoration, it can also be a good spot to jig.
My Edgartown fishing buddy called me last night that the squid were thick and ravenous last night from a harbor dock. Like 100 squid an hour jigging with a single jig. So thick he didn't cast, just let out 5' of line and dipped it in and the squids out without turning the reel handle. Maybe the big wind drove them in, sure wish I hadn't left.
Wow really. I tried in woods hole the other night with no luck.
