hey crew the ru12 family is cruising down to melbourne in early december and will arrive on tuesday 9th (morning)and depart on the 13th (night) already have a trip to sovereign hill and phillip Island with eco tours in mind and was just wondering what else around melbourne is worth taking the family to as I have 2 daughters aged 7 and 9 and we are looking for a bit of local inside imfo. can anyone recommend any good reasonably priced central cbd accommodation for us. any feedback on the all seasons kingsgate hotel (read some bad reviews, noisy etc) also thinking about going to the zoo just not sure which one is better, also what about the aquarium is it worth it? not looking at hiring a car so things that are easy to do on the public transport.
any feedback would be great and maybe meet a few members while I'm in town.

hey there,
for accommodation i would try wotif.com. it will show you some good deals usually. and you can always ring the hotel directly to avoid paying online booking fees.
the melboune aquarium is very good. i went there a few years back and loved it.
i went to the werribee zoo a few months back. i would not rave about it. it was "ok". the other 2 zoos are also nothing out of this world. they are fine.
the great ocean road is pretty famous but i would not recommend it for those who get car sick easily. maybe just skip it and go straight to see the 12 apostles rock formation. there are lots of bus tours going this way. there is a visitor centre in federation square (near flinders st station) that might be worth checking when you arrive. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
you will have fun seeing the penguin parade at phillip island. see if you stop in to see "seal rocks" on the same day. they have a lovely boardwalk along the coast here.
hope that helps a bit,
cheers, glen
thanks for that glen , will check out the imfo joint.
