When squidding, how deep should i let my jig sink ?

Hmm, okay. How do you know if its somewhere near the bottom ? Around how many counts ?

I asume you are using 2.0s to 3.0s in which case it's difficult but it is possible to feel the jig hit the bottom- it just takes a lot of patience.





I mainly use 3.5s and for 10m of tension fall I count 30. It all depends on how heavy the jig is, how deep the water is, how strong the current is and whether you let it free fall or tension fall. Free fall is faster but tension gives you more "fly-time".



Most of the Japanese makers put a fall speed of seconds/m on the box. That should be a rough guide. Or try it somewhere you know the depth and can easily tell when it hits the bottom.

I like most fishermen in my country use handline. Release jig to touch bottom, and mark this point on the line, remove it, clean of grass and then descends a little less than a bookmark. What fishfinder, the additional tools you need just an old toothbrush <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

In Japan, if you are targetting Arrow squid or anything other than Calamari or Cuttlefish, you are probably in a boat and in close to 100m of water so a fishfinder is handy. <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Sorry i was not clear. I allready fishing from boat and depth is about 30 - 40 meters.

About fishfinder, i am joking <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Of course it is useful but i know my terrain and i do not need it for calamari or cuttlefish fishing. I use it only when i trolling for snapper or kingfish.
