righto just after the pro's opinions here I just bought some Hinomiya Ultrastick squid jigs off the bay from wholesale fishing supplies in cronulla do you folks have any opinions on these 16 for $23 blue green pink and orange each in 2.0, 2.5,3.0 and 3.5.
if they work...yahoo , if not you didn't loose too many bucks.

squid can be down right fussy and one days colour is tomorrows failure....go figure

by the sounds of it you've got some ammo to through at them

good luck

thanks mate that's what I thought being a newby at it I don't want to lose big bucks and I'll tell you what they look pretty bloody good too
just got some new shrimp hunters from nautilusy for me and my mate and they are real works of art and look very beautiful....untill the squid get to them...lol..
i've added quite a few jigs to my collection in the last year

funny how you seem to only use 2 or 3 of them

and the rest are still shiney and new <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Sad' />

know what you mean there mate , you find some that work well and stick to them untill they're gone and you cant get them anymore before you turn to what else is in your tackle box.

I bought this you-beaut egi jig form Jones's tackle and according to the mad keen squid man there it was suppose to be the ducks nuts on squid.....paid $28 for it and it has not caught a single squid...who's the sucker...yep ME!!

so I stick to the trusty shrimphunters that I adjust to suit and kill the pig on the squid.

some times it's better the devil you know.

for me, when i start searching an area for squid i start with a jig that i know works

once i find them i just keep using the jig thats working

it's hard for a new jig to get a look in.......lol

yesterday i did start to use a diawa jig that mikey gave me

snagged it up twice and managed to get it back,

then i cracked it off using 8lb, found it & eventually fished it out with my net

i decided to retire it for the day after that

might be a lucky jig

must admit I've been in the piss a few times trying to get jigs back but I 've found a better way and thats to just cut your line and tie it to a stick or rock and go back at low water and pick it up....no wet ass...lol.

sure saved me a few bucks.

Hi,

certainly not a pro, but similar to you i bought 10 Sambo jibs off Ebay for around $20.00. My wife used one yesterday and caught 9 squid with one of them, they didn't want to know about the $22.00 jig on her other line.
I rest my case....lol..

I've had success with both cheap jigs and expensive ones, and even done several trips out on both land based and boat based to test out the theory. On the boat the expensive ones were just as effective as the cheaper ones on some days, and on other days there would be around 4-5 caught on the cheap one and 13-15 on the other. Land based i have never done well with cheaper jigs ($2-5 ones), even using different rods and changing techniques.

Even in a recent squid comp in perth me mate and i won, we used both cheap and expensive jigs and the cheaper ones caught i think either 2 or 3 squid out of 17. That day was pretty murky and overcast and raining so it may have had something to do with it.

Anyway just my 2 cents!

Cheers,

Pete
