FYI, Buddy was out last night and found zero squid. Water temp was 48F.
Water temp is still too cold. May be another couple if weeks.

Where did you buddy go, btw?
Hyannis. Other buddies went last night and the bite is trickling in but not lights out yet.
How long can squid be in. A bucket with out ice ?
Less than 2 hours otherwise they become bait .
To avoid a long explanation . I once was a licensed wholesale seafood HAACP certified wholesale seafood truck dealer you really dont want to screw around with incorrectly maintained mollusks 🤮
Your main concern is how long can they be over 45 F so for instance if you have roughly 45 F saltwater readily available 🙄 then fill the bucket with that .

Now for varsity technique squid holding without a Yeti cooler

get a smallish trash can and two 5 gallon buckets

. go to home depot paint department to and get one screw on bucket top

put the bucket with the top into the other bucket then drill a bunch of small holes in that top bucket ( why later )

then go to the wal mart camping aisle and get a 5 gallon dry bag then any supermarket for ice and KOSHER ( NOT NOT NOT Iodized ) salt or your squid will turn Brownish Yellow .

Crush the ice .. Everything including the kosher salt goes in the smallish trash can then the dry bag goes into the ice salt mix ( which now is a bit colder than 32 f by the way )

Catch squid put in bucket with top and holes on bucket without holes

Ink drips into bottom bucket . save the ink boil pasta in the ink later

repeat .. squid squid squid and so forth

when done put squid in dry bag . wash in ocean

rinse out two buckets

put dry bag and some ice in bucket without holes

oops better buy 3 buckets and 2 screw on tops

put ice and dry bag into clean dry unsquiddish darn awfully watertight screw top bucket

but bucket on footwell of BMW , Mercedes , Audi , Lexus

etc.. ( unless you happen to own a pickup then obviously leave it in the bed ) drive home

Squid are still sushi ( not that you would but ya could ) quality . nice car is still nice

Last suggestion transfer ink into plastic bottle then store in refrigerator for a few days if necessary or freeze into squidsicles until you need them .
Squid Pro Quo Thanks for all the great advice i really appricate it.
No problem happy to help . My new F-150 just arrived on the lot and my engine work is done . Ill be on Hyannis this weekend .
Mello, too much work. Most nights will be down in the lower 40s and your squid will be just fine in a bucket for several hours at least. Same temp as a refrigerator, they will be alright.

Good Luck catching squid everyone.
The Mass Maritime Academy on the West end of the Canal has a live canal cam of the bottom.  We might be able to see thew squid when they arrive on it too.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3OZDVk0PnNQ

A long time ago when I went to college there, you could catch so many squid by the ship. Not allowed anymore with security.
Saw an 'inked up' boat headed towards Hyannis a day ago.  Anybody testing the waters around Colliers yet?

I havent heard of anyone trying it yet. I already have the boat setup to head out there tho 🤣
Anyone been out to Hyannis yet? If so, any news on the bite?

I know people that have been getting them on-cape from shore but theyre not in thick yet.
I heard today that the squid are in Hyannis. A friend is on a 6 pack squid charter this Sunday so I will have a solid report by Sunday night. will let you know.
