I think you may have been talking to Andy and Allan both from egi club....Andy posted he ended up with 12 but have not seen what Allan got.

those 2 guys are a wealth of egi knowledge so stay close if you see them lol.

Paul...mug
haha.. yeah.. ur right paul... but i think it was allan that caught that much squid... andy is the asian guy.... unless i got their names mixed up? LOL... which in that case im sorry... hehe

but yeah, they use a completely different squidding style to you "ru 12 mug"... either way, both techniques seem to yield good results....
I had one of these in the 2.5, tried it over at peel, caught 5 sqid in less than 10 minutes, then lost it on the rocks <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Sad' /> light line.

really work it, give it heaps of stick.

haha... good to hear that my purchase wasnt a complete waste of money... wat conditions was it used under? clear water? sunlight? night? windy? high tide? cast over a weed bed? lol <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />
yeah... i think ive learnt this the hard way.... my shrimp hunger imitations seem to b doin the job fine wen it comes to attracting squid.. but when it comes to actually getting the squid hooked, then thats another story...

anyhow, in light of wat was said above... i went out and got myself a new jig from the "yamashita natural colour" range... the size of it is a 2.0... i must say, this is the most realistic jig i have ever come across in my short squidding career! lol cant wait to test it out... mayb 2nite....

Mate these jigs are gold! I swear by mine. the first time i used one i got a good sized squid first cast mid afternoon. always seems to work up until it just about gets dark and then I change to a yo zuri with a bit of glow.
yep, used mine in the day time as well, natural looking colourover weed and rocks. I dont like the wind, like to see the jig, clear water is always best in my opion.
ck

some jigs work better at night and some work better in the day , you just need to sort out the day from the knight but you do get some jigs that work day or night.

confused now??.....me too hahahahahaha

I like bright colours in the day and dark at night...but if your working the lights the bright ones work then.....mmmmm...go figure.....I think it has a lot to do with the light.

well well well.... where should i start? first of all, after meeting up with afew squidders the other night, i learnt that having the right equipment for the job does make things alil easier PLUS, lets you get the most out of the experience.... with that in mind, i went out to buy a new rod today... it wasnt a "egi rod" however its the next best thing for my budget... after talkin to the friendly shop assistants at "tackle warehouse", they recommended me get the "berkley IM6 dropshot gen3" rod, which i did end up buying... does anyone have any experience with that rod? or the "berkley" brand of rods in general? the rod i purchased is 8 foot long and is quite thin but at the same time quite rigid/stiff..... i also brought sum 6 pound yellow braid line to go with my new rod....

after purchasing the rod, i drove to "anaconda " to purchase sum quality jigs... i ended up picking up an yozuri 2.0 jig... it weighed roughly 6g and sinks nice n slow, which is perfect for the conditions at manly... after that, the next stop was manly harbour....

i arrived 1 hr before high tide peaked and conditions where nice and calm and water was again quite clear.... after roughly 1 hr of blind casting of my "yamashita natural colour jig" with limited success, i switched my new yozuri and after my second cast, i landed my first squid for the day and my second squid ever in my short squidding career! lol

from then on, i was using my 2.0 yozuri jig and ended up landing 2 more, bringing my total for the day up to 3 and my overall total for this season up to 4! haha cant wait to hit the harbour again with my new rod....

nice work. i noticed anaconda are selling some yo-zuri jigs. best to wait till they have a sale! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />
Well done Bevan, no looking back now mate. Good to see you took my advice and got the smaller egi's. Which anaconda did you go to, and were they well stocked up ? My local is running low for some reason <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> .

OH yeah, that was me that caught the squid the other night, I ended up with 12, Andy is the asian (well looks asian, but Aussie as) fella that I was there with.

Cheers,

Alan
good job Bevan , up to 4 now....then 8....then ????????

once you get a few you start to find it easier to catch the next one.

Really interesting thread. We were having the problem of squid interested but not taking here in the UK. A spratt skin (small herring) whipped onto the back of the jig made a huge difference in making them less wary.

Ok, I know this is a cuttle, but it gives you the idea......

not a bad idea , that would give your jig a scent for them to home in on

Another successful day at the office! <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> haha i managed to haul in 2 squid 2nite with the help of paul aka "ru 12 mug"! high tide peaked roughly around 5:30pm 2nite and conditions were ideal for squidding, due to the wind being relatively calm and the water relatively clear.... it seems as usual, that the bulk of the squid are caught during the run-out tide.... the colour of choice for the squid was 2nite orange.... the squid didnt seem to be as plentiful as other nights, but both me and paul ended up with 10 in total.... not bad for afew hrs of squidding...

i ended up using the new rod for the first time 2nite, and i must say, its WAY too stiff to to be used as a "egi rod", nevertheless, its a nice light and rigid... kinda wish i did buy sumthing that was alil more flexible though....

Nice work Bevan and nice to have met you last night.

Geoff and I came up empty handed last night but it was a nice nice to be walking along the esplanade.

Think we got there a bit late as the tide was well on its way out when we started fishing <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':th' /> <img src='http://www.squidfish.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Tongue' /> .

Doc Z
ah recount on that score Bevan..12..I got another one after you left up in the shallows and when I counted them at home I had 10.

was a good night but the squid were hard to see for some reason or another.

I liked that guys light..man it was like NUCLEAR...FAR OUT IT LIT THE JOINT UP and to think that it was just 1 LED with 3 AAA batteries....go to get me one.

going down again tonight but a bit earlier cause I dont have to wait for the wife to get home for the girls.

going to head down about 4.30.

see you there if you go.

mug...Paul
and did it again tonight , another 10 so I'm going down in the morning but I'm fishing another area as I have not fished there for a couple of weeks and it should be good providing the wind is in my favour.

had a good evening with Lody and Allan working our way round the harbour thining out the squid infestation. hahahahaha

also ran into macattack who had knocked a few off as well.

mug...Paul
It was a good night considering the conditions, I ended up with 17 for the night so it was definitely worth the drive down .
